Audition FAQs
Q: What is the 24 hour rule?
A: The 24 hour rule simply means to wait 24 hours after viewing the results of the audition before reaching out to a director. When placing students into five ensembles, there will inevitably be some disappointments. Sometimes when we receive disappointing news, we can have a knee-jerk reaction and could say things we regret later. Please wait 24 hours after viewing the results to reach out. The directors are MORE than happy to answer any questions you may have about the results.
Q: If I don't like the audition results, can I practice and audition again?
A: No. If we allowed one student to do this, we would have to allow all students to do this, and then we're just holding auditions all over again.
Q: Do I have to submit ONE video with multiple excerpts or can I submit one video per excerpt?
A: Please upload a single video. If you are submitting multiple excerpts (i.e. #1 and #2), you may record them separately, but please combine them into one video file before uploading.
Q: Do I have to use a metronome in my video submission?
A: You don't have to use a metronome, but you can if you want.
Q: If I play excerpt #1 and #2 REALLY well, could I be placed in the top orchestra?
A: No. In order to be placed in the top orchestra, the directors need to hear ALL excerpts. The fourth excerpt specifically tells us if the top orchestra will be a good fit.
Q: What if I don't audition at all? Can I still be in orchestra?
A: No, we need every student participating in the IHS Orchestra to submit an audition for placement.
Q: Can we get help on the audition music from the directors?
A: Of course! We are happy to help you learn the music :)
